On November 25th 1985, Kathleen Torres, aka KAT, was born in a small town on the Philippine Islands. Approximately 3 years later, wanting a better life for her and her 2 sisters, her parents moved the family to Toronto, Canada. KAT was raised in The Esplanade, a community located in the heart of urban Toronto, in this community that KAT was exposed to an array of different peoples, cultures and lifestyles. These surroundings laid the foundations that strongly influenced her lifestyle which in turn influenced her music.
Covering a wide range of topics, KAT's rhymes invoke a sense of consciousness in her audience; topics such as love, loss and friendship. KAT's lyrics even cover such intimate details of her hustles and time spent dealing with the law. Through her music KAT has the ability to portray her experiences in her lyrics and relate them to a diverse audience on an intimate level. Her maturity is not only reflected in her lyrics but also in her personal style. Where KAT's female predecessor's images consisted mostly of showing skin and being sexually explicit, KAT remains fully clothed while still being able to exude sex appeal.
