“All this Ace Of Spades I drink just to p”…purchase?
Today, Soverign Brands announced that it sold it’s interest in Armand de Brignac, better known as Ace of Spades champagne, to a “new company” run by Jay Z, as per a New York Post report. The following is an excerpt from Soverign’s official statement.
We are proud to announce that Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company owned by the Berish family, has sold its interest in the Armand de Brignac (‘Ace of Spades’) Champagne brand to a new company led by the globally renowned Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that even occasionally listens to Jay Z’s music, or reads his several-times-a-month news headlines. He’s been helping to popularize the high-end liquor, which starts at $300 a bottle, since he released his video for Kingdom Come‘s “Show Me What You Got” in 2006. It’s the liquor of choice at several of the venues he owns and is affiliated with, namely the 40/40 club and the luxury suites at The Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets, the NBA team Hov previously owned a percentage of.
The “new company” that Jay will use to house Ace of Spades has yet to be disclosed, but it’s more than likely a division of his quickly growing Roc Nation empire. What began as an ambitious project 6 years ago has become an expansive media management and publishing company, sports agency, with divisions that focus on merchandise, touring, and more. Ace of Spades isn’t Jay’s only current liquor affiliation however. D’USSE, which he famously poured in one of the three Grammys he won at the 2013 award show, has been publicly endorsed by Jay Z for the past two years. He recently opened his verse on Beyonce‘s hit single, “Drunk In Love,” with the words, “That D’USSE is the sh*t, if I D’USSE so myself.”
